MOSCOW: The Foreign Minister of Russia said Monday that, Russia had invited Kurds to be part in an next Syrian peace congress in Sochi, despite a Turkish offensive against Kurdish militia in northern Syria.
“Kurdish representatives have been included on the list of Syrians invited to participate in the Syrian National Dialogue Congress which will take place in Sochi next week,” Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
Russia has promised leaders of the autonomous region controlled by Kurds in northern Syria that they can send representatives to a peace forum it is hosting next month, according to official statement from Russian Foreign Minister.
Kurdish groups have not taken part in any round of Syrian peace talks since the civil war broke out in 2011, despite their control of more than a quarter of Syria.
